Generative AI has entered and disrupted large parts of the digital world as we used to know it. Within higher education we can see we are entering “BANI” when the once so reliable assessment system is now brittle (B), causing anxiety (A) and loss of control (N, I)1
As an educator there is a need to stay up-to-date, but this prospect seems increasibly unrealistic. In these times of rapid change, we see an opportunity to draw on strategies developed during the pandemic when the global education community learned from each other and collaborated2
The workshop empowers educators to learn together about genAI while using genAI in a supportive, inclusive environment. The workshop leverages experiential learning to foster digital mindsets and adaptive expertise3 while wrestling with non-linear, complex challenges facing higher education. During this session participants will:
- Co-construct knowledge regarding genAI for teaching and learning
- Experience collaborative learning strategies
- Engage with genAI technologies
- Analyze events according to the BANI-framework.
Workshop Outline
Create a Shared Understanding:
- In a microlecture format, define key terms, compare and contrast genAI technologies, provide concrete examples in practice, align promptology and applications with the neuroscience of learning
- Focus: Consider scenarios/challenges in which you may use genAI in education
- Explore: Review sample prompt libraries to generate ideas
- Co-Create: Post prompts to a shared virtual space and invite further refine with colleagues and/or share a photo to celebrate your efforts.
- Facilitators will pose a question in response challenge or issue that was presented during the debrief or related to ethics
- Participants will self-reflect on a response > move into pairs to generate ideas building on the self-reflections > share and develop ideas in foursomes > report out to large group.
